Deep Excavations & Temporary Works

Deep excavations are construction systems, not simply retaining walls. Their performance depends on ground conditions, groundwater, stiffness, support sequence, installation tolerances and interaction with nearby assets. SYD Engineering develops excavation concepts and design packages around those realities.

Retaining and support systems

We support the selection and assessment of diaphragm walls, secant and contiguous piles, soldier-pile systems, sheet piles, anchors, struts and internal bracing, subject to project conditions and authority requirements.

Construction-stage behavior

Our assessments consider staged excavation, support installation, wall deformation, base stability, groundwater response and load transfer. Monitoring requirements are linked to design assumptions and defined response actions.

Urban and constrained sites

Where adjacent buildings, utilities or operating infrastructure are sensitive, the design process should establish movement criteria, baseline information, predicted response and a practical protection and monitoring strategy.

Control excavation risk before work begins

Engage SYD to review the ground model, support concept, sequence and adjacent-asset constraints.
